Benefits of New VS Part Worn Tyres
Tyres are arguably the most important safety component on your vehicle — everything from acceleration and braking to steering and cornering depends on the small patch of rubber where your tyre meets the road.
Unfortunately, each year in the UK over 1,200 injuries are linked to accidents where illegal, worn or defective tyres played a part. The sale of part-worn tyres is legal, but strict rules apply to their sale and condition. Many drivers assume they offer better value, but if you only look at the upfront cost you can miss the real picture.
New tyres typically come with around 8mm of tread, while part-worn tyres might be offered with as little as 2mm — just above the legal minimum of 1.6mm. The problem is, the cost per millimetre of safe tread can make part-worn tyres more expensive in practice than buying new. Driving on tyres below legal tread puts you at serious risk — and you could face fines up to £2,500 and 3 penalty points per tyre.
At Jet Wheel Tyre, we strongly recommend choosing new tyres over part-worn or used ones. We believe safety, longevity and peace of mind are worth the extra investment.
