Making sure your car’s oil is changed regularly helps to keep your car’s engine running healthily. The correct oil will increase engine life, maximise power and fuel efficiency of the vehicle. Oil keeps the components moving with as little resistance as possible, ensuring you get the best performance possible.
Oil needs changing as it can lose effectiveness in a number of ways. For example oil can thin and lose its heat absorbing properties, potentially causing damage internally as the engine attempts to run normally.
An oil filter constantly picks up more and more contaminants through use until it stops effectively preventing the potential damage that particles have on the system. Consequently it is widely recognised that a car’s oil filter should be changed at the same time as an oil change. This will ensure that the oil can flow freely throughout the engine and will remain in good condition, at least until the next oil change.
Most vehicles have an oil warning light to worn the driver when oil is running low, however, you should always check the oil once a month to ensure it has not fallen below the manufacturers minimum level.
Most car models will advise to service their oil and filter once a year; however, it does vary and will outline this in your manufacturer’s manual.
